Our online marketplace of tools & goods for lifelong learners, young & old.

Hosted by Matt.

We came up with this idea many moons ago: a site where educators and student could source our original printables and other tools for use in the classroom or living room.

Of course the nomenclature was a play on the great educational TV series from the 1970s, Schoolhouse Rock – a show we grew up watching as part of our very limited screen-based fodder. Back then, TV was more strict with its programming – mostly bite-sized stories with an educational, informative, or moral bent – but it was impactful and memorable because it was well-curated and didn’t run on indefinitely. When the show was over, we switched off the tube and played outside. The good ol’ days…

Anyway, while we never moved with the idea as a standalone company, today you can find our educational-leaning goods here at ROSSLANDS, under the tag SCHOOLHOUSE STOCK. Things not just for the young, but also continuing students of life.

Note: We are big proponents of reducing-by-reusing, so while some items are brand spanking new, others items are gently used (which are noted on product) .

A Brine of the Times

Behind the name ROSSLANDS.

While ROSSLANDS as a business is a relatively new, the name is generations old.

Our German ancestors, armed with oversized leather suitcases and a secret pickle recipe, emigrated to America and tagged a generous swath of local farmland for their own. This Ross family plot was ingeniously named ROSSLANDS.

From there, one relative attempted to set up shop in downtown Cincinnati selling the “famous” family pickles. A property owner offered him a city storefront in trade for the proprietary recipe, but – valuing its uniqueness (and kudos to him) – he stood his ground and said “no”. Unfortunately now, along with the story, that recipe is now history.

This business pays homage to these unique family beginnings by recognizing every city’s broad, colorful local history: showcasing unique historical anecdotes, artifacts and traditions, and presenting them in interesting and amusing ways.

Any questions?
